Professor Rachid Yazami

” Smart batteries for imbedded systems”

is the recipient of the 2014 Draper Prize of the National academy of Engineering, considered as the Nobel Prize of Engineering for the invention of the graphite anode for lithium-ion batteries back to 1980. He served the Cheng Tsang Man Chair Professor in Energy at the School of Materials Science and Engineering of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. He also was appointed the Program Director in the Energy Research Institute and Principal Investigator of the TUM‐Create Centre of Electromobility in Singapore. Prior to Singapore, Professor Rachid Yazami was a Research Director at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) for over 35 years and served as a Visiting Associate at the California Institute of Technology, where he conducted research on electrode materials such as graphite nanotubes, nano‐silicon and nano‐germanium anodes.

Prof. Yazami enjoys an international reputation. He was decorated by the King of Morocco in 2014 and is the 2016’ Bastille Day recipient of the French Legion of Honour, the highest distinction of the French Republic. In 2018 Yazami was awarded the Arab Scientist of the year by the Takreem Foundation in Kuwait City. In 2019 he received the Arab Investor Award in UNESCO, Paris and in 2020 he received the Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence and Life Achievement in the UAE. In 2022 he was appointed the Distinguished Visiting Professor of the Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan.

Yazami serves a Corresponding Member of the Moroccan Royal Academy of Science and Techniques. He is the President of the Scientific Committee of the Private University of Fes, Morocco and the President of the Scientific Committee of the Moroccan Institute of Advanced Studies, the Mohamed-5 University, Rabat, Morocco.

Yazami co-authored over 200 scientific papers and is the inventor in about 180 patents relating to battery technologies and to hydrogen storage. His most recent achievement is the development of the ‘non-linear voltammetry’ technology (NLV) enabling: 1) ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles below 10 min without excessive heat generation (a world record), 2) 10% to 25% enhancement of the battery’ energy storage capability, and 3) doubling the lifespan of the battery. The NLV technology is expected to be commercialized by KVI a company founded by Prof. Yazami in Singapore (


Professor Adel M. Alimi , University of Sfax 

” Deep Learning Challenges in the 4th Industrial/AI-Revolution Era”

was born in Sfax (Tunisia) in 1966. He graduated in Electrical Engineering 1990, obtained a PhD and then an HDR both in Electrical & Computer Engineering in 1995 and 2000 respectively. He is now professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Sfax.

His research interest includes applications of intelligent methods (neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary algorithms) to pattern recognition, robotic systems, vision systems, and industrial processes. He focuses his research on intelligent pattern recognition, learning, analysis and intelligent control of large scale complex systems.

He is associate editor and member of the editorial board of many international scientific journals (e.g. “IEEE Trans. Fuzzy Systems”, “NeuroComputing”, “Neural Processing Letters”, “International Journal of Image and Graphics”, “Neural Computing and Applications”, “International Journal of Robotics and Automation”, “International Journal of Systems Science”, etc.).

He was guest editor of several special issues of international journals (e.g. Fuzzy Sets & Systems, Soft Computing, Journal of Decision Systems, Integrated Computer Aided Engineering, Systems Analysis Modelling and Simulations).

He is the Founder and Chair of many IEEE Chapter in Tunisia section, he is IEEE Sfax Subsection Chair (2011), IEEE ENIS Student Branch Counselor (2011), IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society Tunisia Chapter Chair (2011), IEEE Computer Society Tunisia Chapter Chair (2011), he is also Expert evaluator for the European Agency for Research.

He was the general chairman of the International Conference on Machine Intelligence ACIDCA-ICMI’2005 & 2000.

He is an IEEE senior member.

Dr. Olivier Cardin, University of Nantes

“Cyber-Physical Production Systems: concept, theory and applications”

Dr. Olivier CARDIN is a researcher in the Laboratory of Digital Sciences (LS2N) of Nantes University, France. He is a specialist of innovative production control architectures, mainly holon-based, and of Digital Twins of manufacturing systems, developed in the global context of cyber-physical production systems. He is the chair of the department of Mechanical Engineering of the Technology Institute of Nantes University, where he teaches Industrial Engineering, Automation and Robotics.
